Your clients are starting to ask about accessibility
95.9%
WebAIM's automated scan of the top one million home pages found detectable WCAG failures on 95.9% of them in February 2026.
Source: WebAIM Million 2026, as of February 1, 2026.
75.1
In WebAIM's 2026 study, home pages detected as running on Shopify averaged 75.1 detected errors, against 56.1 for all home pages.
Source: WebAIM Million 2026 (Technologies: Ecommerce platforms), as of February 1, 2026.
About 70%
About 70% of the 2025 digital accessibility lawsuits tracked by UsableNet involved e-commerce sites.

In Europe too. The European Accessibility Act has applied since June 28, 2025 and covers e-commerce services sold to EU consumers; service microenterprises (fewer than 10 staff and no more than EUR 2 million turnover or balance sheet) are exempt. Source: Directive (EU) 2019/882, EUR-Lex, as of June 28, 2025.
The fixes live in theme code: focus handling, labels, dialogs, contrast. That takes testing tools and screen reader time most agency sprints don't have room for. That's the part we do.

ReviewFixVerify
Accessibility Review
A WCAG 2.2 AA review of your client's key templates. In-house automated scans at desktop and mobile widths, then manual keyboard, VoiceOver, NVDA and 400% zoom testing. Every issue is mapped to the theme file that causes it, with a fixed price to fix it.
Code Remediation
We fix the agreed issues in theme or template code, on a duplicate theme, a branch of your repository or a staging site. Never the live store.
Verified report
A change log and a before/after report for every issue ID: what changed, in which file, and how we checked it. Ready for your client, or for their auditor's retest.
White-label by default
- Unbranded reports, or your logo on them
- We sign your NDA
- We never contact your client unless you ask
- No selling to your client for 12 months after a project
How a project runs
Access
A Shopify collaborator request with theme permissions only, a branch of your theme repository, or a WordPress staging login. Never a password.
Review
Scans and manual testing on the agreed templates. Third-party apps are flagged with options at the start, not discovered at the end.
Fix plan
A fixed price for each agreed fix. You approve the plan before any code changes.
Fix on staging
A duplicate theme, a pull request on your branch, or a WordPress child theme or small plugin so updates don't overwrite the fixes.
Verify
Before/after scans and manual checks, written into a change log mapped to every issue ID.
You release
Your review, your branch names, your release. We don't publish anything.
Checkout is Shopify-hosted on every plan. On non-Plus stores we report checkout issues to Shopify rather than fix them. On Shopify Plus, custom checkout extensions can be in scope.
Automated where it’s reliable, manual where it matters
In-house regression tooling
Every template we touch is scanned before and after, at desktop and mobile widths, against WCAG 2.2 AA rules (axe-core engine). The results are diffed and mapped to your issue IDs, so each fix comes with its own evidence.
Manual testing on every change
- Keyboard only, every changed page
- VoiceOver on macOS and NVDA on Windows
- 400% zoom and 320 px reflow, measured contrast
- A regression pass on add to cart, cart, search and forms
Why both. WebAIM notes that automated tools cannot detect every WCAG failure, so a page with no detected errors is not necessarily accessible. Source: WebAIM Million 2026 (Methodology), as of February 1, 2026.
In our demo audit, automated scans flagged 13 of 30 findings.
The other 17 needed keyboard or screen reader testing. (Demo store, fictional.)
Proof you can check: our demo store
Before. Color and size are clickable <div>s. Tab skips them, so a keyboard user can't add to cart.
After. Native radio groups. Arrow keys change the choice, focus is visible, the sold-out size is named.
- 12 → 0rules violated in automated scans (659 affected elements → 0), 16 scans at desktop and mobile widths
- Fail → passkeyboard-only shopping task: 11 of 12 steps failed before, all 12 pass after
- 0 → 30 of 30findings passing a scripted retest, one check per finding
Demo store, fictional. Built to show our process. No client, no real audit. The before store is a deliberately dense mix of common defect types. Real stores usually show fewer automated failures, but keyboard and screen reader problems like these only show up in manual testing.

Every row also lists the other files touched, what changed, how it was verified (scans, scripted retest, keyboard, screen reader), how to retest it, and its status.

Security and data handling
Least-privilege access
A Shopify collaborator account with theme permissions only, a branch of your repository, or a WordPress staging login. Never a shared password. Access is removed at handoff.
Staging only
Every change is made on a duplicate theme, a branch or a staging site. Nothing touches the live store until you release it.
Confidential by default
We sign your NDA. Reports are unbranded or carry your logo. Nothing public about you or your client without your written permission.
Your code and your client's data
We use AI-assisted tooling under strict data controls: your code and your client's customer data are never used to train AI models, and every change is engineered, reviewed and tested by people.
For your client's security review, we send a one-page security overview and answer their questionnaire in writing.
What we don’t promise, said up front
Never promised
- Lawsuit dismissal
- Protection from future lawsuits or demand letters
- Blanket legal compliance (ADA, Section 508, EAA, or any law)
Our Accessibility Review isn't a certified audit, VPAT or ACR. Nothing we send is legal advice.
Flagged with options, never silently included
- Checkout on non-Plus Shopify stores: Shopify's code. We report those issues to Shopify.
- Third-party app internals: we flag, reconfigure, swap or ticket the vendor.
- Content typed into the admin, such as product alt text, unless it's in the quote.
- PDFs, documents and video captions.
No overlays, ever. We change the code. In April 2025 the FTC finalized an order requiring overlay vendor accessiBe to pay $1 million and barring it from claiming, without evidence, that its automated tool can make any website WCAG-compliant.
