Scope and payment terms, in plain English

What you can hold us to, how payment works, and what nobody should promise you. Every job also gets a short written scope before work starts.

Store owners: Review, Review + Fix and Fix Watch. Auditors and agencies with an existing audit: pay on pass.

Store owners: what you can hold us to

Every Review + Fix comes with a written fix plan you approve. For each fix, the plan lists the issue ID, the WCAG 2.2 success criterion, the check we’ll run, and the fix’s share of the price.

Verified before/after report

For every issue ID: the file changed, automated before/after results at desktop and mobile widths, and the manual keyboard and screen reader result, with recordings of key tasks.

Payment

Reviews are paid up front. Review + Fix: the Review fee first, half the balance at fix-plan approval, and the rest after you’ve seen the fixes on staging.

60-day fix window

If anything we fixed stops passing its agreed check within 60 days of publishing, we fix it again at no charge. This doesn’t cover changes caused by theme updates, apps installed or updated, or code or content changed by someone else. In those cases we show you what changed, at no charge, and quote the fix.

Refund for a fix that can’t pass

If an agreed fix doesn’t pass its agreed check and we can’t fix it within 10 business days of you telling us, we refund that fix’s share of the price.

What’s not included

Third-party app internals (we flag, reconfigure, swap or ticket the vendor), Shopify checkout on non-Plus plans (Shopify's code), content typed into the admin (unless you add the alt-text pack), PDFs and documents, video captions, and legal advice.

Auditors and agencies with an existing audit: pay on pass

Send us one client's audit findings. We review the findings and the code, then quote a fixed price for an agreed list of fixes. Your team retests. If the agreed fixes fail your retest, you don't pay for them.

What you can hold us to

The agreed fixes, by the agreed date, without breaking the site, with a change log mapped to each audit item. If the agreed fixes fail your retest, you don't pay for them.

  • The agreed fixes. The specific audit items listed in the written scope, and nothing implied beyond them.
  • By the agreed date. If we’re going to miss it, you hear from us before it passes, not after.
  • Without breaking the site. Work happens on a duplicate theme or staging site. Before handoff we check that add to cart, the checkout path, forms and search still work.
  • A change log mapped to each audit item. What changed, where, and how it was checked, using your audit’s IDs.

Pay on pass

Pay on pass: if the agreed fixes fail your retest, you don't pay for them. Each quote defines the pass criteria (issue list, WCAG version and success criteria, test environment and assistive technology). Up to two retest rounds; failed items are reworked free within 14 days.

This is a payment term, not a compliance guarantee.

Pass criteria, defined in each quote

  • The issue list: which audit items are in scope
  • The WCAG version and success criteria each item is tested against
  • The test environment and assistive technology for the retest

How the retest decides payment

  1. Your team retests the agreed fixes against those pass criteria.
  2. Failed items are reworked free within 14 days, and you retest again.
  3. There are up to two retest rounds.
  4. You pay for the agreed fixes that pass. If the agreed fixes fail your retest, you don’t pay for them.

What’s not covered

  • The audit itself
  • Checkout on non-Plus Shopify stores (Shopify-owned code)
  • Third-party app internals (we flag, reconfigure, swap or ticket the vendor)
  • Catalog content such as product alt text, unless listed in the quote
  • More than two retest rounds
  • Findings that aren’t on the agreed list, unless we agree a change in writing
  • Issues introduced after handoff by someone else: new apps, theme updates, new content or edits

Shopify checkout

Checkout is Shopify-hosted on every plan. On non-Plus stores we report checkout issues to Shopify rather than fix them. On Shopify Plus, custom checkout extensions can be in scope.

What we never promise

No developer can honestly promise these, so we don’t, in any form:

  • Lawsuit dismissal
  • Protection from future lawsuits or demand letters
  • Blanket legal compliance (ADA, Section 508, EAA, or any law)

Founding Partner Start

Until December 18, 2026, for the first five partner firms: three findings fixed on staging first, with no charge for them unless you go ahead, then the terms on this page. Full terms and fine print.

Referral fees

We don’t pay referral fees to auditors, or to anyone who retests our work. If an agency introduces a client and doesn’t resell the work, the agency can receive 10% of the first paid invoice, and we state that in writing in the client’s scope of work.

We are engineers, not lawyers. We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA (covers WCAG 2.1 AA) for the agreed fixes. Whether a site meets a particular law, and what to do about a demand letter or lawsuit, are questions for a lawyer: yours, or your client’s.
